(Reuters) ? Moody's Investors Service on Thursday cut the sovereign foreign currency credit rating for Slovenia one notch to A1 from Aa3, citing increasing pressure on the government's balance sheet that could arise from a potential need to further support the nation's banking system.
The outlook for the credit rating is negative, Moody's said in a statement. Slovenia is rated one notch higher, at AA-minus, by both Standard & Poor's and Fitch Ratings.
Moody's also said the downward pressure on the rating stems from a deterioration in government funding conditions due to the ongoing euro zone credit crisis.
Fitch Ratings last week said it had put Slovenia on watch for a possible downgrade, and expects to complete that review by the end of January.
Slovenia was the fastest growing euro zone member in 2007 but was badly hit by the 2008-2009 global crisis due to its dependency on exports. The economy shrank by 8 percent in 2009.
After a year of recovery, Slovenia's economy contracted by 0.5 percent in the third quarter of 2011 signaling another recession might be coming.

3) A growing housing market for the 15th straight year ? best in the western world.
4) A Stanley Cup final in a Canadian city ? with no riots.
5) Submarines that actually work. (The Royal Canadian navy?s entire, if modest, fleet is currently above water ? in drydock.)

7) More Canadian tours by Will and Kate.
8) A Canadian soccer team that finally qualifies for the World Cup.
9) The hope that the rest of the new plastic Canadian bank notes will be as cool-looking as the just-issued C-note.
10) A pipeline from Alberta to B.C. to ship Canadian oil to China while Keystone-XL drags on.
11) The phasing out of the Canadian Senate, which functions better than the U.S. Senate, but which has little power. It seems as vestigial as Britain?s House of Lords.
12) Canadian exports to have more of a value-added nature than merely shipping raw commodities like logs, potash, and crude oil.

(Reuters) ? Yahoo Inc is discussing a plan to slash its stakes in China's Alibaba Group and its Japanese affiliate as part of a complicated share transaction valued at roughly $17 billion, sources familiar with the matter said on Wednesday.
The deal is expected to be considered by Yahoo's board on Thursday, one of the sources said, adding that the board was not interested in entertaining offers for the entire company at this point.
In the deal under contemplation, Yahoo would effectively transfer most of its 40 percent slice of Alibaba back to the Chinese company and all of its stake in Yahoo Japan to Softbank Corp in return for cash and assets, one of the sources said.
The exact value of the deal would depend on how the assets are valued, one source said.
Shares of Yahoo, which had languished in the red along with much of the technology sector on Wednesday, reversed course and ended the session almost 6 percent higher at $15.99.
Yahoo was not immediately available for comment. The possible deals were first reported in The New York Times.
