Last month Worcester, Massachusetts band, Dom released their highly anticipated 2nd studio effort. That 5-track release, which goes by the name Family of Love, can be streamed below. The group's mastermind, Dominic (whose last name is unknown) was nice enough to give us a track by track look into the making of the Nicolas Vernhes-produced (Animal Collective, Bj?rk) release. Find out what popstar inspired the lyrics for "Telephone", which track was penned last minute in the studio and who lent their songwriting talents to the EP closer "Some Boys", below.
"Telephone"
Was going for teenie bop meets space rock. vocals were inspired by marc bolan, music was inspired by judy nylon. Used melodic noise bending to try and mimic a phone call, and added a dial tone solo. ?It was a challenge to make it ?ber-pop but adding slightly dark, dissonant insinuations here and there. The lyrics were inspired by Mariah Carey. I was trying to say as much as possible with as little as possible. "I need you to be.." , "you want me for a", it's all one big juxtaposition.

"Family of Love"
Wrote this one in the studio. Sat down at a fun machine organ, jammed it out, and pressed record. Wanted the song to be a journey like an acid trip. Spacey and sensory.?

"Damn"
Slowdive inspired start to finish hazy blast of overdriven, 'verbed out shoegazey 90's alternative was the idea. Thought it would be cool to add a cap'n jazz era post hardcore guitar hook at the end.

"Happy Birthday Party"
Obtuse, dumb. about a 'happy birthday party' themed party, where it's everyone's birthday. Everyone have a happy 'happy birthday party' party time. For those who didn't interpret 'Living in America' as a socio-political statement about Americans and loved it.?

"Some Boys"
My friend Emma wrote this one. I organized the music. Thought her lyrics were simple but effective. From a young broken hearted female's perspective.
