I don't know about you, but when I hear the word "shag" I immediately think of "a carpet or rug with a long, rough pile" or "a dance originating in the US in the 1930s and 1940s, characterized by vigorous hopping from one foot to the other."
But apparently that word has a different meaning across the pond. And by "across the pond" I mean in jolly old England.?In case you don't speak British (or haven't seen an "Austin Powers" movie), the word "shag" is British slang for ?having sexual?intercourse?(to use the technical term).
And so it has come to pass that, in (very) jolly old England a new dating website has launched. It is called?ShagAGamer.com and it claims to be "the biggest adult dating site on the net that lets gamers and geeks meet up for no-strings attached sex."
ShagAGamer.com is brought to us by the folks behind?the DateAGamer.com site. What's the difference? Well, apparently you use the former if you're looking for a controller-filled quickie and the?latter if you're looking for some long-term playtime.
Eurogamer interviewed?DateAGamer chief Tom Thurlow who said he?started the new site after noticing that DateAGamer users weren't using the site for dating but?"were using the site purely to meet up for sex."
"It got us thinking that, perhaps by providing a platform where geeks and gamers over the age of 18 could arrange to meet up and get it on, we could help people who may feel uneasy in social situations, find someone and get some action," he said.
So, yes, ShagAGamer.com is playing on some pretty lame gamer?stereotypes. Meanwhile, apparently doing the nasty with?a gamer doesn't come cheap. Though you can sign up for a free membership and browse, if you actually want to contact other ShagAGamer?users it'll cost Brits ?19.95 and Americans?$29.95 per?month.
All in all, the best thing about the ShagAGamer news was the imagined profile?tweets it inspired as it became a trending topic on Twitter.
"Level 157 healer seeking Scantily Clad tank," tweeted?Scott Watson.
"WoW Night Elf with GSOH seeks Warrior Wizard for magical dungeon fun times & live action role play,"?wrote?Laura Yates.??
"Lonely gamer seeks immediate gratification. Demo available. Extra adventures available by micro-transaction. No lagging." tweeted?Kevin Eva.
But perhaps?Andrew Roper ??summed it up best: "Twitter seems to be turning into '50 Shades of Gamer' today."

Winda Benedetti?enjoys?vigorously hopping from one foot to the other and?is happily married to a gamer she met while snowboarding.?She?writes about video?games for NBCNews.com. You can follow her tweets about games and other things?on Twitter?here?@WindaBenedetti?and you?follow her?on Google+. Meanwhile, be sure to check?out the?IN-GAME?FACEBOOK PAGE?to discuss the day's?gaming news and reviews.?
