Genes May Control How Long You Look at Happy Faces (HealthDay)

WEDNESDAY, June 29 (HealthDay News) -- Variations of a certain gene affect the amount of time people spend looking at happy faces, a finding that may help improve understanding of social behavior and autism, according to researchers.

Looking at people's faces helps us read their emotions, but some people are reluctant to gaze at others' faces. This is especially true of people with autism.

The researchers analyzed DNA from 28 adult volunteers and tested how long they looked at video clips of eyes and mouths of faces with different emotions. They found that people with two types of variations in the cannabinoid receptor (CNR1) gene spent more time gazing at happy faces, but not at faces showing disgust.

The study is published online June 28 in the journal Molecular Autism.

"This is the first study to have shown that how much we gaze at faces is influenced by our genetic make-up. If replicated it has profound implications for our understanding of the drive to socialize, and in turn, the atypical use of gaze in autism," study co-leader Bhismadev Chakrabarti, of the University of Reading in England, said in a journal news release.

Arts and Entertainment,Celebrity Gossip News - How are martial ...

I want to know if martial artists turn off their pain receptors. I mean on Human Weapon there are guys breaking bricks nad marble without even flinching. so how do they do it does it have to do with adrenaline?

If you break the board or brick successfully, it doesn't hurt very much. it hurts much more when you hit it hard and it doesn't break!

Repeated striking can deaden the nerves. Muay Thai fighters will tell you their shins are numb to pain after years of training. Repeated striking will also thicken the bones if done properly, which can enable you to break objects more easily. Finally, you can learn to ignore pain to a certain degree, but a person's pain threshold is largely genetic.

It is possible to condition the body to not react to pain or to not feel as much pain as the average person. I've been training for 5 years, and I know that I can take a much harder hit now than I could when I started.
As for breaking bricks and marble, if you know how to hit properly, it doesn't hurt. when a board breaks, energy is transferred from the hand directly through the board, so resistance is not met, and pain is not felt.

a lot of the time they do toughen their striking areas to avoid injuries and deaden nerves, but it's more about having the right mind set. It's almost like the matrix: don't THINK you can break through it, KNOW you can. you have to visualize yourself going THROUGH it, not just striking the surface. This is important because if you hit it, but not hard enough to penetrate it, you are going to get hurt. The brick can in a sense,hit back. I am a martial artist, so I know.

it has to deal with adrenaline a little. but the most important part is their training .they don't turn of any pain it is mind over power. this requires concentration you dont think about the pain and also you have to hit the object in the right area. then you have to think on human wepon these guys have been praticing for years.

its all training with focusing on all inner strength and releases it on a single hit..i forget the termonology for it?but far as the pain between focusing and your adrenaline going ya body is causing so much endorphins when you unleash on a object all 3 combined ya body does miracles..plus they have been doing that for sooo long they can probavley tolerate the pain after it all said and done

we train for it to a point were we know where to hit how hard to hit and we kinda Develop an immunity to pain(on a small scale

There is a difference between "not hurting" and "not acknowledging the pain."

Pain happens in the mind.

training a certain way to hit it so it hurts the least
but it still hurts a little bit

Its called being stoic, where i live in england we have it down to an art form

Kuwait approves record budget with deficit (AFP)

KUWAIT CITY (AFP) ? Kuwait's parliament on Wednesday passed a deficit budget for the 2011-2012 fiscal year projecting the highest spending in the OPEC member's history amid warnings the country's future is at risk.

Thirty-nine MPs voted for the budget while 20 were opposed.

Spending is projected at 19.44 billion dinars ($70.7 billion), an 11-percent rise from the previous budget, mostly to meet a string of pay hikes and grants for Kuwaitis, lawmakers said.

The previous largest spending was 18.7 billion dinars in 2008-2009 when oil prices hit an all-time record above $147 a barrel. That budget included a one-off payment of 5.5 billion dinars for the pension agency.

Revenues are estimated at 13.45 billion dinars, more than 90 percent from oil, a sharp 38 percent increase from last fiscal year after raising the oil price in the budget from $43 to $60 dollars a barrel.

That leaves a deficit of 6.0 billion dinars, but the oil-rich emirate projected a deficit in the past 12 fiscal years and ended up in surplus mainly for underestimating oil income.

During that period, Kuwait has accumulated about $200 billion in budget surpluses and is also expected to end up the current year in the black if oil prices remain high.

Kuwait's fiscal year starts on April 1 and ends on March 31.

But MPs issued a stern warning to the government that spending, which has more that tripled in the past six years, must be curtailed otherwise the country risks withdrawing from assets to pay wages.

Head of the parliamentary budgets committee MP Adnan Abdulsamad described the budget as "crazy" and said the price for oil needed to balance the budget is $85-90 a barrel.

"Ten years ago, we needed oil price to be at $18 a barrel to balance the budget, but now if oil slips below $85-90, we will be forced to withdraw from the assets to pay for wages," Abdulsamad told parliament.

The price of Kuwaiti oil dropped below $100 dollars on Tuesday.

MP Adel al-Saraawi, a member of the budgets panel, said 90 percent of the budget is allocated for subsidies, especially power, and wages.

Kuwait adopts a cradle-to-grave welfare policy where a majority of citizens are employed by the government, receive handsome salaries, pay no taxes and receive services at low charges or free.

Liberal MP Abdulrahman al-Anjari said the country still almost totally depends on oil income.

"The title of this budget is 'a nation at risk'... the sharp increase in spending is very alarming," he said.

"The government says it wants to transform Kuwait into a trade and financial hub. This is the biggest joke I have ever heard."

State Minister for Cabinet Affairs Ali al-Rashed said the blame for high spending should be shared by the government and MPs who have passed populist legislation to raise salaries and benefits.

Under Kuwaiti law, 10 percent of revenues are deducted every year in favour of the emirate's sovereign wealth fund, the assets of which are estimated at about $300 billion.

Returns on the fund are not included in the budget.

Kuwait says it holds 10 percent of global crude reserves and is pumping about 2.6 million barrels per day.

Welcome to: Book Review: Record Collecting for Girls by Courtney E ...

Record Collecting for Girls
Courtney E. Smith, September 2011
Source: Netgalley.com
Buy it from Amazon.com: Record Collecting for Girls: Unleashing Your Inner Music Nerd, One Album at a Time

When I came across Record Collecting for Girls, I was super-excited to have the chance to read?a book written by a woman that's all about how women relate to music, both inside the industry and out. Music?shapes our emotions.?Most of us wind?up thinking of our favorite songs and artists as representations of ourselves, and we also judge other people's personalities based on their musical likes, so why not dive in a little deeper and study our relationship to music?

Early in the book, author Courtney E. Smith?talks about how girls'?taste in music is?so often?shaped by men, and she discusses the gender inequality that often arises in music. Yes, there are plenty of female artists out there, but unless they are pop stars,?they rarely get the?same airplay as male artists within the same?genre. Smith relates the attitude of?an alternative rock station's music manager who once told her that his station would never play two songs by female artists in a row, and would always try to limit how many female voices played over their radio waves, because it might alienate their mostly-male audience.?All-female bands are still?rare, but Smith?shares some great, helpful?info?about the history girl bands, staring in the 60's and leading right up to today when the best girl bands, Smith contends, are underground, outside the reach of the mainstream. The blockbuster female acts these days are mostly?in the pop scene, and they frequently sing songs written by men and produced by men and their public images are precisely calculated to appeal to men. So. We ladies still have a long road ahead of us for achieving?music industry equality, but we can definitely do it.

The book is written?partially in memoir style and focuses a lot on the author's own?ideas and experiences. Record Collecting for Girls isn't an impersonal, informational guide like the title might suggest,?and I like the talking-to-a-friend approach of the writing.?Hearing another person's?lifelong experiences with music is always a revelation.?I like the many playlists in the book and the how-to guides like the advice on how to make a Top 5 favorite artists list for yourself. Rule?#1 for the list is "You Must Own All the Full-Length Albums Released by Any Artist in Your Top Five", excepting greatest hits albums and the inevitable low-point-of-their-career album.?I really like Rule?#2, "Artists Cannot?Be?In Your Top Five of All Time if They've Only?Released One Album"--it's called a sophomore slump for a reason, and plenty of?bands and singers with world-rocking first albums followed up their success with a bit?of a clunky second album. Time and patience will let you know who?your true favorites are.?And you don't have to impress anybody! Pick your artists, change them when you want to, and don't ever be embarrassed about liking something uncool.

?The book is also very much about relationships. How many songs are about true love, lost love, impossible love, or a disdain for love? Music feeds our feelings, and Smith talks a lot about various stages in her life where music enhanced or stabilized the way she felt about a relationship. It's mostly relatable, though the anecdotes occasionally edge into TMI, which makes me think Record Collecting for Girls might be best suited for girls in college and beyond.?College is really the breeding ground for musical discoveries anyway,?and it's the time when relationships move from kiddie angst to full-on grown up angst. For which?we need music. :-)?

I'm a book fan. Literature is my field of study, and I absorb and evaluate books like it's second nature. Record Collecting for Girls has reminded me that perhaps?the level of thought and attention that I think should be paid to books (even books meant purely for fun) should be paid to music, also. I want people to really think about what they read--why they love it, why they hate it, how it enhances their life or affects their emotions--and after reading Courtney E. Smith's work, I think we could all benefit from devoting as much thought to our musical choices. This book is part musical history, part memoir, part "how-to" guide, and all interesting. Grade: A-

European stocks fall at open on Greek worries (AFP)

LONDON (AFP) ? Europe's main stock markets dropped at the start of trading on Monday, as traders this week gear up for crucial events this week in the Greek debt crisis and await key economic indicators from around the world.

Public and private creditors of Greece were meeting in Rome and press reports said French banks would propose arrangements to alleviate the Greek repayment schedule for up to 30 years to give Greece time to grow and have the means to service debt.

London's FTSE 100 index slipped 0.29 percent to 5,681.04 points, Frankfurt's DAX 30 lost 0.28 percent to 7,101.15 points and in Paris the CAC 40 shed 0.24 percent to 3,775.75.

Indebted Greece faces a strike this week and a momentous battle in parliament as the government struggles to quash dissent to additional austerity reforms needed to secure a vital new EU-IMF bailout.

The country's influential unions have called a 48-hour walkout from Tuesday on top of rolling power cuts by disgruntled electricity workers that have hit households around the country for the past week.

Greece has been told by its European partners that it cannot hope to continue receiving aid out of a 110-billion-euro rescue package agreed with the EU and the IMF last year without these reforms and privatisations.

The Socialist government of Prime Minister George Papandreou has until Thursday to push austerity reforms worth an additional 28 billion euros through a divided parliament -- on top of sweeping cuts last year.

On Monday, Tokyo's Nikkei-225 index closed down 1.04 percent to 9,578.31 points as investors shunned risks amid concerns over eurozone financial stability and ahead of key economic data in Japan and the United States, traders said.

Investors looked ahead to US data, including personal income and consumption numbers due later Monday, as well as the Bank of Japan (BoJ) quarterly "tankan" business sentiment survey on Friday.

On Friday, Italian bank stocks fell suddenly on warnings of a possible downgrade by ratings agency Moody's and yields on Italian government bonds surged, sparking fear that the eurozone's debt troubles could be spreading.

A day later, central bank governors agreed on ways to help reduce the "moral hazard" of leading banks whose failure would bring chaos to world finance.

The measures relating to so-called global systematically important banks were designed to strengthen their resilience and included raising their loss absorbency requirements.

'Dabangg' wins five awards at 'Bollywood Oscars' (AFP)

TORONTO (AFP) ? Screen tough guy Salman Khan's corrupt cop romp "Dabangg" (Fearless) led with five wins at the Indian International Film Academy awards, held for the first time in North America.

The film on Saturday won in the hugely important music categories for best female playback singer, best male playback singer and best music direction, as well as best screenplay.

And actor Sonu Sood picked up the award for best performance in a negative role as the evil head of a regional political party. He thanked his mother when accepting the award.

"My Name is Khan," starring Shah Rukh Khan as a Muslim suffering from Asperger's syndrome who is detained at a US airport after his disability is mistaken for suspicious behaviour, followed with two nods for best story and best lyrics.

The award for best dialogue went to the thriller "Ishqiya."

Tens of thousands of fans swarmed Toronto's Rogers' Centre stadium for the 12th annual "Bollywood Oscars," and another 700 million were expected to watch it on television.

Shah Rukh Khan, Anil Kapoor ("Slumdog Millionaire") and the Deol family were among the dozens of Bollywood superstars in attendance, along with Oscar-winners Hilary Swank and Cuba Gooding Jr.

Salman Khan, however, could not make it to Toronto as he was reportedly shooting his next film "Bodyguard," a romantic action movie with Kareena Kapoor.

"I love you so much," said Mamta Sharma over and over, after winning the award for best female playback singer for the song "Munni Badnam."

A tense moment followed when a fan grabbed Shah Rukh Khan onstage, leading the "King of Bollywood" to complain that he was hurting his leg.

"This is the problem, only men grab my thighs," Khan quipped as his assailant was escorted off stage.

Khan's return to the awards show after a six-year absence had earlier been put in doubt by a knee injury that had required being taped up at a hospital and "a couple of injections."

He said he had fractured a part of the bone and the ligament was "swollen to three times the size it should be," but he vowed to perform a dance number at the IIFA show.

Khan last attended the IIFA in Amsterdam in 2005, and last performed at the show a year earlier in Singapore. He was nominated this year in the best actor category for his role in "My Name Is Khan."

A three-day festival leading up to awards night saw flash mobs of Indian dancers, gala movie premieres, a fashion show and Indian cultural events.

Jermaine Jackson also performed his late brother Michael's hits with Indian pop singer Sonu Nigam at an IIFA concert on Friday to commemorate the second anniversary of Michael's death.

Ontario has the second-largest Indian diaspora in the world, topping 600,000 out of a total population of 13 million, "and their passion for Indian cinema has become ours (all Ontarians) too," said Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty.

Launched in 2000 at the Millennium Dome in London, the annual IIFA awards have been held in 11 cities around the world, including Colombo, Macao, Bangkok, Dubai, Amsterdam and Johannesburg.

It is designed to celebrate the popular Hindi-language film industry and win new audiences abroad.

Going into the night's singing and dancing extravaganza, Bollywood gangster movie "Once Upon a Time in Mumbai" had led the field in the nominations with 12, including best film and best male lead for Ajay Devgan, one of Bollywood's leading actors.

"Dabangg" was close behind with 11 nominations.

Other movies still in the running for a clutch of awards include the drama "Ishqiya" (Love) with nine nominations. Romantic comedy "Band Baaja Baaraat" (The Wedding Planners) and the thriller "Rajneeti" (Politics) both had eight.

The nominations came from more than 1,500 votes from the Indian film fraternity.

About Airport Transportation Bay Area ? ArticleExpert.net

The huge variety of airport transportation Bay Area residents and visitors have access to makes it important to choose the right one. The basic differentiation is based on the choice of airports, which includes OAK, SFO and SJC. Let?s look at the transport options available at each one.

The first one on the list has to be SFO, which is San Francisco International Airport. As a start, the internal transport is called the AirTrain. It connects the terminals, the parking garages, BART rapid rail station, and the Rental Car Center. It?s very convenient for passengers that the BART terminal is located at SFO itself, in parking garage G.

Additionally, three routes run by San Mateo Transit (SamTrans) link SFO to San Francisco and the Peninsula. Public transport aside, other options include airporter buses and the shared vans and door-to-door shuttles. There are also a whole bunch of charters, hotel shuttles and limo services. Taxis can be found on each terminal, at the roadway islands on the baggage claim/arrival level.

The second choice among airports here is SJC (Mineta San Jose Int?l). In terms of public transport, the easiest way is to get on the VTA Route 10 Airport Flyer bus. This Valley Transport bus provides passengers with free rides to and from SJC. It goes around in a loop that includes the Metro rail station, Santa Clara Caltrain Station and the two SJC terminals.

For inter-terminal transport within SJC, there are free shuttles once every 10 to 15 min. These shuttles can take passengers to or from the A or B terminals, parking lots. SJC also offers pretty much the same private transport options as SFO, including taxis, limos, charters, door-to-door shuttles and sharing vans.

The last one on the list of airports is Oakland International (OAK). In terms of public transport, passengers have to take the AirBart or AC Transit bus to the BART Coliseum rail station, from where passengers can take the BART to their destination. AirBart picks up passengers from both terminals at a single stop, located in-between the terminals.

If it?s too much trouble to get off a plane, board a bus and then hop off it to take a train, then there are plenty more private transport choices. Free shuttles whisk passengers every 10 min from the terminals to the Rental Car center. Plus, there are the usual shuttles, vans, limos and buses. Regardless of the choice, the fact is that all these options for Airport Transportation Bay Area residents and visitors have are collectively far better than what most other cities can provide. Cheerleading cheers

Practice makes perfect in cheerleading. In addition to practice routines by heart sings and rejoices also important. To strengthen the voice of a cheerleader's recommended that you lie on your stomach while belting applause. This helps sound resonate from the stomach, but by the throat.

A cheerleading cheer should always be conducted with energy and vitality. Should motivate the applause from the crowd and pump. They should be attractive and easyand encourage public participation.

A fever needs to motivate athletes to their best performance. Cheerleaders are on the front, so to speak, and ask the audience to cheer on their team. Nothing is better in a stadium full of people chanting the name of their team as a motivational one.

Another important part of the skills of a cheerleader 's condition. No one likes to hear the words muttered, but it sounds lazy and boring. People respond better if the wordsarticulated in a clear and strong belt. The voice is a metaphor of physical violence, which is the basic psychological rooting for sports teams, first and foremost.

There are a number of classic cheers to cheerleaders or cheerleading teams can make their own use. No matter what is decided is the level of engagement that determine the success of applause.

When a cheerleading team is strong and enthusiastic,any team sport is galvanized by their presence. Without a team of cheerleaders, the players have little but their strength is to keep going. A mixture of the two will win.

Video Conferencing Equipment is Needed for International Business ...

There are many business out in the world that conduct their business internationally, as well as nationally. I would think that they would have to keep good, constant communication to see how well their businesses are doing. The main things you need in many kinds of business is professionalism, trust, and communication. The best way to keep up communication is having video conferencing equipment. You will need these to have a feedback on how everything is doing concerning the business methods, relationships, and productivity is developing. If I was to have a huge business consisting of business being conducted overseas, I would have video conferencing equipment, as well. The best thing to watch for is that you have the best type of video communication. If you do not have these things in your business plans, your business could fall down into the dumps. Like I said before, you definitely need this kind of equipment to keep constant communication on your business.

Radcliffe show halted after death

How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, featuring Daniel Radcliffe (r)Harry Potter star Radcliffe (r) announced the cancellation to theatre-goers on stage

A performance of Broadway musical How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying was called off at the last minute after a stagehand was found dead backstage.

The 29-year-old man, who has not been named, is thought to have suffered a cardiac arrest.

The show's stars Daniel Radcliffe and John Larroquette apologised to theatre-goers on stage for cancellation.

The show would have been the Broadway revival's 100th performance.

The stagehand was found just before the curtain was due to rise at 2000 local time on Wednesday. Police said he was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Radcliffe and Larroquette appeared on stage an hour later to explain the show would not be going ahead.

"The two of them said they had mulled it over whether to go on with the show," audience member Barbara Germain told the New York Times.

"They apologised to everyone, but said it wouldn't be fair to us because they would not have been able to give a good performance," she added.

Show producers said in a statement the "incident was not caused by an accident related to the production".

A spokeswoman for the medical examiner's office said a post-mortem would be conducted.

The musical carried on as scheduled for its performance on Thursday night.

No interviews, Twitter, travel for Ai Weiwei (Reuters)

BEIJING (Reuters) ? No talking, no tweeting and no travel for a year -- these are some of the conditions of Chinese dissident artist Ai Weiwei's release from more than two months in detention, underscoring Beijing's efforts to muzzle dissent.

The comprehensive gag on Ai, who is not allowed to post anything on Twitter or accept interviews for a year, raises questions about the Chinese government's repeated claims that his detention was based on economic crimes.

"The key thing is these two conditions -- the media and the Internet," a source close to the family told Reuters on Friday.

Ai has freedom of movement within Beijing, but before he "goes out, he needs to report his whereabouts to them" for a year, the source said, but declined to elaborate who Ai needs to report to.

The 54-year-old artist was released on bail on Wednesday, a day before Premier Wen Jiabao left for Europe, where Britain and Germany have criticized Ai's detention.

China has denied that international outcry over the detention of the world-famous artist had pressured Beijing into his release. But secret detention continues for Ai's three lesser known associates lost in his shadow.

Chinese authorities have not provided information about the location or charges facing Ai's assistant Wen Tao, his accountant Hu Mingfen and designer Liu Zhenggang, who all went missing in April amid a crackdown on dissidents and activists.

"It is the least famous among them who are at the most risk," Catherine Baber, Amnesty International's deputy director for the Asia-Pacific, said in a statement calling for their release and information on charges.

ILLEGAL RESTRICTIONS

Prominent rights lawyer Pu Zhiqiang said it was illegal for the government to restrict Ai from tweeting or accepting interviews.

"A strong government that is ruled by law cannot impose conditions like these on its citizens," Pu said. "If there is indeed a criminal case, why isn't there a mention of it? Up until now, there hasn't been a notice of the case.

"This behavior is illegal -- it's in violation of the United Nations conventions."

Social networking sites like Twitter and Facebook are blocked in China, as authorities fear these websites could allow the government's critics to organize.

But many people, including dissidents, use virtual private networks to circumvent the restrictions.

Ai has 89,117 followers on Twitter and has tweeted 60,162 times -- the last occasion being on April 3, the day he was detained.

Analysts say Ai's release is far from a signal of a policy shift by the ruling Communist Party. Authorities have muzzled dissent with the secretive detentions of more than 130 lawyers and activists since February, amid fears that anti-authoritarian uprisings across the Arab world could trigger unrest.

The Foreign Ministry said Ai, who had a hand in designing the Bird's Nest stadium for the 2008 Beijing Olympics, remained under investigation for suspicion of economic crimes.

But police have issued no formal notice to explain why he was being held. Ai's family says the allegations are an excuse to silence his criticism.

Wall Street reverses sharp sell-off after Greek deal (Reuters)

NEW YORK (Reuters) ? Stocks closed way off session lows on Thursday on news Greece agreed to a five-year austerity plan, but lingering economic uncertainty ultimately drove the S&P 500 lower, keeping a downward trend in place.

Nearly 30 percent of the day's volume traded in the last hour. That coincided with the market's turnaround and the news out of Greece, which set the stage for a resolution to Athens' credit problems that have hurt investor sentiment around the globe.

"The agreement on the austerity plan, that's really what got the market going," said Paul Hickey, co-founder of Bespoke Investment Group in Harrison, New York.

The question now remains whether the late-day surge is a precursor to renewed buying interest or if it was just an interruption before selling returns in coming days.

"We're going headline to headline, which is typical of a market pullback," Hickey said. "There's not a whole lot of tangible evidence for investors to move on right now."

The S&P 500 came within less than a half point of its 200-day moving average -- a line the bulls have been able to hold since last September. Technical analysts monitor that level as an indication of the long-term trend, and a consistent close below it could trigger more selling.

"It's definitely positive and encourages people," Hickey said.

Sources with knowledge of the talks told Reuters that Greece has won the consent of a team of European Union and International Monetary Fund inspectors for its new five-year austerity plan after committing to an additional round of tax increases and spending cuts.

The Dow Jones industrial average (.DJI) dropped 59.67 points, or 0.49 percent, to end at 12,050. The Standard & Poor's 500 (.SPX) lost 3.64 points, or 0.28 percent, to 1,283.50. But the Nasdaq Composite (.IXIC) gained 17.56 points, or 0.66 percent, to close at 2,686.75.

A Bespoke analysis showed the S&P 500 posted the strongest comeback in almost a year, on days when the benchmark has fallen more than 1 percent. From its session low, the index climbed more than 20 points into the close.

The Dow's swing covered 233.79 points from intraday low to session high. For the second straight day, the Nasdaq managed to end the session in positive territory for the year.

MICRON AND ORACLE FALL LATE

After the closing bell, Micron Technology (MU.O) shares tumbled nearly 13 percent as the company's quarterly revenue fell below expectations.

Oracle Corp (ORCL.O) shares dropped 3.3 percent in extended trading as investors were disappointed that its profit beat estimates by a narrower margin than in recent quarters.

Earlier in the day, markets had sold off during the regular session as oil's slide to a four-month low triggered declines in a market already hurting after Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke's comments on Wednesday about a slowing economic recovery.

Skepticism remained despite the Greek deal as details were not yet known and any agreement would still have to win a vote in Parliament.

"When it's 3 o'clock on a Thursday afternoon and short-sellers see that (Greece deal) headline, they cover first and ask questions later," said Peter Boockvar, equity strategist at Miller Tabak & Co in New York.

He said since there was already a plan awaiting a vote, the difference could be a change in terms that could make it easier to pass in the Athens Parliament next week.

U.S. crude oil futures settled at $91.02 a barrel, down $4.39 or off 4.6 percent, after the International Energy Agency said it will release 60 million barrels of oil from strategic stockpiles. For details, see

The slide in the price of oil was exacerbated by a 0.7 percent climb in the U.S. Dollar Index (.DXY), which tracks the greenback's performance against a basket of major currencies. In times of stress, the flight to safety that pushes the dollar higher makes oil more expensive, further sapping demand for crude and other commodities priced in dollars.

Giving some support to the market, tumbling oil prices lifted an index of airlines' stocks (.XAL) by 2.4 percent.

Bets that lower prices at the pump will open consumer's wallets boosted the S&P retail sector index (.RLX) by 1.4 percent.

S&P BOUNCES OFF KEY SUPPORT

The S&P 500's bounce off its 200-day moving average was the second in a week. Last Thursday, a brush with that level enticed buyers and the benchmark index closed in the black for the day. The 200-day moving average now coincides with the 2010 intraday high of 1,262.60, giving it extra technical support.

"What it means is that if you do momentum trading, you can place bets, and a lot of big money is doing momentum trading," said George Feiger, CEO of Contango Capital Advisors in San Francisco.

"But the big picture story remains the same. We are looking at small growth and very small return in equities for the coming years."

His view differs from the median of 46 equity strategists surveyed in the last week, which showed an expectation of an 11 percent gain in the S&P 500 for the year, which would take it to 1,400.

On the economic front, U.S. claims for unemployment benefits rose more than expected last week, suggesting little improvement in the labor market. Other data showed sales of new homes fell in May.

About 8.31 billion shares traded on the New York Stock Exchange, NYSE Amex and Nasdaq, above the daily average so far this year of 7.57 billion.

Declining stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the New York Stock Exchange by a ratio of 17 to 13. But on the Nasdaq, about seven stocks rose for every six that fell.

autoresponder-Autoresponder system to make more visitor | Internet ...

2011/06/23 ? 6:12 am

In all the Internet, the autoresponders move towards an excellent promotional tool. Although the technical name is an autoresponder, other known names include the email, the mailbot, and the answering device automatic of email. An autoresponder is a great manner of saving time, because she answers any message with an automatic answer.

ch_fluidH = 1;
ch_nump = ?2?;
ch_client = ?bukisa?;
ch_width = 300;
ch_height = ?auto?;
ch_type = ?mpu?;
ch_sid = ?bukisa_rv_article_left?;
ch_backfill = 1;
ch_color_site_link = ?#0000CC?;
ch_color_title = ?#0000CC?;
ch_color_border = ?#FFFFFF?;
ch_color_text = ?#000000?;
ch_color_bg = ?#FFFFFF?;

The autoresponders can vary messages which pass by the email to the manuscripts which are programmed to function on waiters. All the types of autoresponders function the same thing, because they will send a message automatically outside when a message is received. According to the message that they receive, they will send the message of correct return. This can be given by the manuscript or the email address.

Although they are large for promotional reasons, they are also largely maltreated all through the Internet. The autoresponders are large to employ for your daily tasks, because they will basically carry out all work for you. On the one hand, they can also be completely disastrous on those which precisely prove to contact them.

When you subject your Web site to the engines, the directories, or the classifieds of research, should never not try to you to employ an address of autoresponder.The majority of these types of Web site employ the autoresponders themselves, when they send their messages.If their autoresponder precisely proves to send a message outside to your autoresponder, they will continue to answer ? which can be very annoying.

When you decide to subscribe to an email or with an electronic publication should always employ your email address to you validates and never not to employ the address for your autoresponder. If you employ your autoresponder to subscribe, the chances are you will have your withdrawn subscription. It can be very annoying if a group sends email, only to note that your continuous autoresponder to send the messages of return. For this very reason, should never not employ to you your address of autoresponder to subscribe to anything.

The autoresponders can be large to employ, although they can also be a risk as well. Often periods, with Groups of subscription or electronic publications, it can be very difficult to locate somebody who employs an autoresponder. In the majority of the cases, those which employ an autoresponder do not have the same answer or of the address that they made when they were registered. In the cases of this type it can enormously take time and of effort to locate the address.

If you take care of your autoresponder and do not employ it to annoy others or to sing upwards for subscriptions of email, it should treat you well. An autoresponder can make a world of good for your business, saving to you much time and the effort. It is easy to install autoresponders and easy to use, which are great news for no matter whom who is not technical with the Internet. For the price which they cost and as they easy are to function ? autoresponders can facilitate your businesses of Internet that always front.

    Pick of the week: A dark, erotic "Leap Year" in Mexico

    We're probably better off not working too hard to interpret Michael Rowe's claustrophobic, erotic, ships-in-the-night drama "Leap Year." This is a movie that might well lend itself to some heavy-duty analysis, whether that means post-Freudian gender-studies hoo-ha or post-colonial racial theory. But even by bringing that stuff up I run the risk of making "Leap Year" seem impossibly dreary, when in fact it's a gripping, mysterious use of no-budget cinema at its finest, and an intimate character study with surprising emotional power. (Be advised that there was another movie made in 2010 with this title. This one does not have Amy Adams in it.)

    This is a work of almost ascetic severity, shot entirely inside the Mexico City apartment of a freelance journalist named Laura (played by the marvelous M?nica del Carmen). But somehow "Leap Year" uncovers an entire world, recounting a sweeping psychological narrative of a woman's descent into delusion, sexual obsession and self-destruction and then her voyage out again. Focusing on the details of everyday life with a camera that rarely moves, Rowe manages to make Laura's story both gripping and dramatic. Cinephiles will surely recognize the influence of, say, Yasujiro Ozu, Chantal Akerman and Roman Polanski here, along with the sexual frankness of '70s and '80s European film, but it's not like you need a graduate degree to absorb this simple, direct and almost wordless tale. (Several critics have compared this to "Last Tango in Paris," and while I guess that's inescapable it's not fair to either film.)

    "Leap Year" won the Cam?ra d'Or at Cannes last year (given to the festival's best debut film), and many people were startled to discover that a film that seems so steeped in the subtleties of class, race and culture in Mexico was directed by an Australian. It's probably fairer to say that Rowe has an immigrant's sensibility: He's been living and working in Mexico for 17 years, and wrote the script in Spanish (with co-writer Luc?a Carreras), but the ruthless observation in "Leap Year" also has a feeling of outsiderness. His central character, Laura, is a bit of an outsider too, even if she looks stereotypically Mexican. She's a dark-skinned mestiza (meaning that her features and physique look more Indian than European), short in stature, with a curvaceous frame. But she's also an educated, middle-class professional who has left her home village in Oaxaca far behind. She spends her days doing piecework journalism on the Internet, and her nights either masturbating while watching her married, affluent neighbors across the street or bringing home men she'll never see again.

    There's a sharp distinction between Laura's life as she'd like to imagine it and as it really is, something I expect everyone who's ever lived on their own in a big city can identify with. She tells her mother she's having dinner with a friend when she's watching TV, and that she's cooked a steak when she's having beans out of the can. For one of her lovers she spins out an urban fantasy about her apartment building: How she sometimes has coffee with the older couple who live downstairs, or takes the kids from No. 6 to the fair when their parents are busy. None of it's true; as far as we can tell she doesn't even know those people. But at least she's talking to this guy. We never see the face of the first guy she brings home (Juan Manuel Sep?lveda's camera stays focused on a cockroach scuttling across the floor, perhaps too symbolically), and the second one only speaks when he's calling to reassure his wife that he's on his way home.

    The one she ultimately talks to is the first one to volunteer his name, Arturo (Gustavo S?nchez Parra), and he's the tall, imperious, European-looking type that Laura clearly prefers. Rowe has said that the racial element of the story is important, and it's certainly a definitional element of Mexican life, albeit one that usually isn't discussed. He also likes it rough, and while we're just talking about R-rated kink at first (spanking and so on), Laura likes it and is eager for him to push further. A whole lot further, as it turns out, further than Arturo necessarily wants to go. The sex scenes in "Leap Year," by the way, are explicit and realistic, but a bit detached and not purposefully alluring. (This also isn't "real" sex, in the sense of those quasi-pornographic French art films.) Sep?lveda's camera remains at a distance, whether Laura and Arturo are screwing or role-playing or just snuggling on the sofa, which is where they break the real taboo between them.

    Rowe's point, as I take it, is that the real danger for a solitary urban woman like Laura is to reveal your need and loneliness, your desire for an intimate connection that will break through the atomized, depersonalized landscape. Letting a guy you barely know whip you with his belt will leave some bruises, but those will heal in a few days, while the consequences of emotional vulnerability can be genuinely catastrophic. Let me reassure you that while "Leap Year" goes to some profoundly troubling places, it's not, in the end, some utterly dark fable of misogyny or nihilism. Arturo is a cipher or a mystery -- Laura doesn't learn much about him, and may not want to -- but he isn't a monster, and there's a desperate, haunting tenderness to their story of uncontrollable love and its ending.

    "Leap Year" is now playing at the Cinema Village in New York, and opens July 1 at the Laemmle Sunset 5 in Los Angeles, with more cities and DVD release to follow.?

    Rihanna Slams Report That She Provoked Chris Brown

    Rihanna Slams Report That She Provoked Chris Brown

    How do you enrage Rihanna? (Or, for that matter, any woman who's been hit by her man?) Suggest that she had it coming.

    Yesterday, MTV Canada went even further, reporting that the "Man Down" singer herself might have suggested that she deserved the beating she received in February 2009 from her then-boyfriend, Chris Brown. (He was later convicted of felony assault.)

    The article quoted a tweet, supposedly from Rihanna, that read: "'I admit it. I provoked Chris [Brown] to hit me. It not entirely his fault. #imSORRY?' "

    Turns out, the website got the story from another site -- and obviously failed to fact-check it. The tweet wasn't from Rihanna (it was apparently a hoax), but when she heard about it, she fired up her (actual) Twitter account.

    Her tweet: "are u @#$% kiddin me?????? You're supposed to be a RELIABLE source for news on music and this is the bulls--t u post??"

    MTV Canada then tweeted an apology, and added, "#Rihanna fans. We were reporting on a story that was posted on several sites today. We had no intention to be salacious. @Rihanna" Maybe not, but they certainly got her attention. You don't mess with this chick, and if you have any further doubt, check out her gun-toting turn in her latest video!

    No free ride home for penguin lost in New Zealand (AP)

    PEKA PEKA BEACH, New Zealand ? There will be no free ride back to Antarctica for a young penguin who defied the odds by swimming all the way to New Zealand. The trip could spread infections, authorities say, and there's no way to transport the animal this time of year.

    Wildlife officials said Wednesday they will let "nature take its course" after the Emperor penguin ended up on picturesque Peka Peka Beach on New Zealand's North Island ? 2,000 miles (3,200 kilometers) from Antarctic waters ? in the country's first sighting of the bird in the wild in 44 years.

    The penguin could have caught a disease by swimming through warmer climes, and wildlife officials would not want to be responsible for introducing illnesses into the insulated Antarctic penguin colony, said Peter Simpson, a program manager for New Zealand's Department of Conservation.

    Then there are the logistics.

    Right now, it is dark almost 24 hours a day in Antarctica. Virtually no one travels there this time of year, Simpson said, and even if they did, there would be no simple way to transport and cool a bird that stands almost three 3 feet (1 meter) high and is well insulated with fat.

    Wildlife officials say the penguin has been eating wet sand, likely mistaking it for snow, and Simpson said its plight has sparked entreaties from around the world asking New Zealand to help the penguin get home since it was spotted by a resident on Monday.

    "We are going to let nature take its course," he said. "It roamed here naturally. What is wrong with that?"

    Simpson said he hopes the bird will find its own way back ? particularly as it starts to become hungry. The penguin appears healthy and well fed, he added, and may not need another meal for several weeks.

    The unusual bird attracted all sorts of attention at the beach Wednesday. School groups visited, television crews took footage, and onlookers snapped photos and even sketched it.

    The penguin has been resting on the sand throughout the day but apparently has been taking to the water at night, Simpson said.

    Experts don't know if the bird is a male or female ? because the two sexes are almost indistinguishable among Emperor penguins.

    The tallest and largest species of penguin, Emperors typically spend their entire lives in Antarctica. Their amazing journey to breeding grounds deep in the Antarctic was chronicled in the 2005 documentary "March of the Penguins," which highlighted their ability to survive ? and breed ? despite the region's brutal winter.

    Christine Wilton was walking her dog Monday when she discovered the bird and called conservation authorities. She said it seemed a little more lethargic Wednesday than earlier in the week but was still alert and appeared unfazed by all the attention.

    "It looks really grand when it stands up," she said. "I hope it stays safe, I really do, because it is just too precious."

    Estimated to be about 10 months old, the penguin probably was born during the last Antarctic winter and may have been searching for squid and krill when it got lost, experts said.

    Emperors can grow up to 4 feet (122 centimeters) tall and weigh more than 75 pounds (34 kilograms) . They can spend months at a time in the ocean. It's unclear how this one became disoriented, but it likely came ashore for a rest, said Colin Miskelly, a curator at Te Papa, the Museum of New Zealand.

    It needs to find its way south to cooler waters if it is to survive. He said Emperor penguins can drink salt water, but eat snow in the winter to hydrate themselves.

    The last confirmed sighting of a wild Emperor in New Zealand was in 1967 at the southern Oreti Beach, Simpson said.
