Those who run local youth baseball leagues are hoping to capitalize on the excitement generated by the late-season push by the Redbirds and reverse the recent trend of dwindling participation numbers.

As far as youth sports, Alton Park & Recreation Executive Director Brad Cunningham says soccer has been king for a number of years.?

He says many kids involved in Park & Recreation sports gravitate toward soccer.? He gives a variety of reasons why, but possibly the biggest reason is cost- you only need a ball to play soccer.
